While it may not feel like it in our neck of the woods, fall is here.
What does that mean? It means that all over the country some of your favorite fruits and vegetables are being harvested and rushed over to your local produce section.
Now is the time to start planning incredible meals and special homemade desserts using the bountiful and beautiful harvest mother nature is providing at this time of year.
The Fruits of Fall
Berries – Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries. Now is the time for that smoothie you’ve been craving or perhaps a nice blackberry tart.
Limes – We have just 3 words for you Key Lime Pie. Or perhaps you are ready to host a fiesta and need that extra touch of lime for your homemade salsa.
Grapes – Do you enjoy making your own jellies? Now is the time. Maybe you would just enjoy having some friends over for an incredible chicken salad
Melons – While we all enjoy them mostly in the summer heat, melons are still in full swing and look fabulous. Tonight surprise the family with an amazing watermelon torte or serve dinner with a glass of fresh juice made from cantaloupe.
Pears – Fall is the absolute best time to throw some pears into your next dish. There are countless pork dishes coupled with pears that leave everyone’s taste buds craving more.
Autumn’s Vegetables
Corn – This time of year is the peak for corn. Grab an ear or two and grill them next to your favorite steak. Better yet, serve up some homemade cornbread with your next pot of gumbo.
Eggplant – An amazing autumn vegetable just screaming to be served tomorrow night as eggplant parmesan.
Herbs – Fall is the time to stock up on your fresh herbs. Plus, who wouldn’t love fresh basil on their bruschetta.
Bell Pepper – Fall is about color and nothing is more colorful than a variety of bell peppers served with fajitas or a nice peppered steak.
Zucchini – Fall is the time to grab some zucchini while it’s still in prime condition. Be the talk of the office when you deliver fresh loaves of zucchini bread to your co-workers.
Tomato – Serve up that fresh salad with beautiful fall cherry tomatoes. Lunchtime? Slice up some fresh tomatoes and serve them on a hot ham sandwich.
We are blessed to have such an abundant variety of produce this time of year. Come by today and take advantage of everything the fall harvest has to offer.
