Interested in eating healthy? The new food symbol that replaces the Food Guide Pyramid is the MyPlate eating plan to follow. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and 2010 US Dietary guidelines, promote MyPlate to help remind individuals to choose each food group, arranged on a dinner plate and make it easy for healthy planning. Food groups include grains, dairy, fruits, vegetables and proteins. The food groups are color coded to help you learn how to set up your plate.
The USDA MyPlate recommends balancing your calories, enjoy your foods but eat less, avoid oversized portions and make half your plate fruits and vegetables. Switching to low-fat milk, making half your grains whole grains, and replacing sugary drinks with water, also contribute to a healthy plate!
