Prepackaged Foods Making Healthy Changes
Carolyn Bell, RDN – Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Check food labels for newly reformulated, healthier, prepackaged food products. Smaller package sizes, “lightened” up products (lower in calories), lower sodium, and adding fiber to foods are some of the changes to look for when reading labels. A product example of change is: new Simply Tostitos, Black Bean Chips. These chips are 140 calories per serving (8 chips), made with real black beans, non-GMO (non-genetically modified organisms), no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and contain 5 grams of fiber per serving. Checking for non-GMO and fiber in products (helps you feel full longer) is a great place to start when looking for healthier products!
