How to choose and store strawberries. Keep strawberries fresh and extend their shelf life after purchase. First, wait until it is time to use the strawberries before washing them. Once washed, the berries pick up moisture, which can cause mold to occur faster. Select firm, shiny, deep red strawberries (they will not ripen further once picked.) Strawberries are also low in calories (45 calories per cup), which make the berries a good choice for weight management snacks!
Think strawberries are just delicious and sweet? These sweet berries also contain enough vitamins to help prevent diseases and add to good health. Vitamins C, potassium, folate, antioxidants and fiber are all found in just one cup of strawberries. Phenolic compounds found in strawberries help lower risks for certain types of cancers and heart disease.
