- Monitor your portion sizes. Don’t let the sight of foods determine how much you should eat. Know your appropriate calorie needs and plan your portions before your Thanksgiving dinner. Just because it is a holiday, your calorie needs don’t change. By planning ahead, you can choose to have your favorites, and if your favorites are high in calories, keep the portions smaller. Start with the lower calorie foods such as vegetables and turkey, and then sample your favorites. This way you will be less tempted to overeat the higher calorie foods.
- Avoid skipping meals to save calories for your “Thanksgiving Meal”. Skipping meals will only leave you hungry and less likely to feel in control when approaching the dinner table. Be sure to eat a good breakfast if your meal is at lunch or eat a good breakfast and lunch if your meal is in the evening.
- Take a walk before or after your Thanksgiving meal or take one before and another walk after the meal. Getting out and exercising will help you burn more calories and allow a few extra at mealtime. Happy Thanksgiving!
